Based on the interest and success of the Environmental, Social, and Governance event the BC-Yukon Chapter of the A&WMA is pleased to announce a presentation on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) provided by George Jaikaran, Team Leader Stewardship & GHG, Senior Green Accountant, Associate with RWDI.

This is a hybrid presentation as George will be delivering his talk from his office in Calgary. We will be holding the event at the McCarthy Tétrault Boardroom and providing lunch for those who wish to attend in person.  An on-line presentation will also be provided.

A BC-Yukon board meeting will be conducted before the presentation; all are welcome, thus please let us know if you are interested and note we are always looking for new, potential presentation ideas – please provide!

Presentation Title:

Extended Producer Responsibility: Materials and Program Costs

Presentation Abstract:

This presentation provides an overview of EPR frameworks, beginning with the core principles of EPR and how programs are structured. It then examines how EPR is being implemented across Canada, with brief comparisons to approaches in the United States. The session will outline which materials and obligated parties are typically included under EPR programs, followed by a discussion of how packaging costs vary by material type. The presentation concludes with an overview of program costs, performance goals, and the implications for producers, regulators, and project stakeholders navigating evolving compliance requirements.
