The BC Yukon Chapter of the A&WMA is pleased to announce a presentation on electric vehicles provided by Christian Reuten, a Technical Director and Associate at RWDI.

Presentation Title:

Greenhouse Gas Lifecycle Emissions of Electric Vehicles versus Internal Combustion Vehicle

Presentation Abstract:

Electric vehicles (EVs) have been criticized for their high embodied carbon, i.e., the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with their manufacturing and disposal, particularly associated with the manufacturing of the batteries. It has been argued that these outweigh the GHG savings over their lifetime compared to comparable internal combustion vehicles (ICV), especially if the EVs are not used enough, retired early, or used in jurisdictions with high electricity emission intensities. In this presentation, Christian will run through several scenarios to separate fact from fiction and speculate about likely changes in the future.
